About Me

The woman behind the skin

Esthetician ~ Makeup Artist ~ Owner

 clientpicslindsayharris2015_--6

I have been a licensed esthetician for 5 1/2 years and a professional makeup artist for over 15 years.  I grew up in Colorado with my parents, older brother, daschounds and a cat only her mom (Me) could love.  I attended Colorado State University (GO RAMS!) and graduated in May 2004 with a BA in Performing Arts, minor in Psychology and an emphasis in theatrical makeup design.  I moved to Texas that July and I have lived here ever since!  I miss Colorado, and I will always think of myself as a Coloradan, but after 10 plus years here and being engaged to a Texan… I’m a Texan too!!

As a makeup artist I started in the theatre in high school and college and have branched out into fashion, film, T.V., print and special occasion.  In 2004 in college, I won my eight state region for Theatrical makeup design through the American Collegiate Theatre Festival (ACTF) and went on to compete on the national level in Washington D.C.  I was nationally recognized through the Kennedy Center American Collegiate Theatre Festival (KCACTF) for exceptional makeup design and while there I had the privilege of participating in a workshop with professional Broadway and Hollywood makeup artist Randy Houston Mercer. Mr. Mercer shared advice, technique and personal stories about his career, not to mention he was simply WONDERFUL to work with.  Once in Texas, while in Esthetics school in 2009, I met and attended a 2 day workshop with another Hollywood makeup artist James Ryder.  Upon completion of the 2 day workshop, Mr, Ryder invited me to come to L.A. to spend a week workshopping with him and other aspiring makeup artists.  What an AWESOME experience!  I have gone on to work for local, national and international clients and I continue to aspire to more within the makeup world!

In 2009 I went to Ogle School of Hair, Skin and Nails where I completed 750 hours of education about skin: anatomy, physiology, histology as well as sanitation, disinfection and laws pertaining to skin care treatments.  I passed both my state written and practical exams with high scores and I see to it I stay within TDLR compliance on a daily basis.  I have worked in a handful of other spas as an esthetician, product knowledge educator and service trainer.  I have always dreamed of opening my own space and becoming a business owner and after a lot of hard work, determination, sacrifice, education and persistence, I am THRILLED to say that Serene Dreams Esthetics is the result!  I give the services I want to get and I give each client 100%.  I love what I do….it makes going to work a pleasure each and every day!

Interesting Facts About Me

A few things that make me who I am

I was born with a rare genetic disorder called Ectodermal Dysplasia (ED).  There are hundreds of sub categories with Ectodermal Dysplasia and I seem to be a rare “new mutation”.  I most closely align with EEC Syndrome, though all of us with ED have more  physical characteristics and quirks in common with each other than most of us do with our families!  I was 30 before I ever met or saw another person with ED, and once I did my life was forever changed!  I now have a big extended family thanks to the National Foundation for Ectodermal Dysplasia (NFED). The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams! ~ Eleanor Roosevelt

Dreams have always helped guide me and drive me.  Without our dreams, how can we possibly shoot for the moon? Without shooting for the moon, how can we land among the stars?   I have always and will always fight for, strive for and reach for my dreams!  And once I achieve them, I’ll close my eyes and dream another dream.

Professional Integrity

Integrity is a vital part of who I am and my business practice. I hold myself to 4 standards to help maintain integrity and professionalism.

1
Education

I take pride in being a well educated esthetician with an extensive knowledge base of skin and its anatomy, physiology and histology, skin conditions and contraindications as well as skin care products and ingredients.  I continue to attend continuing education classes and seminars as well as read articles and books pertaining to skin, treatments and technology within the skin care and beauty industry.

2
Preparation

I do my best to gather as much information as I can in the intake forms so I am prepared before I even lay a hand on your skin.  It is important for me to know about your skin, but also abut YOU as a person.  I want to give you the service you want and I cannot do that without information about your needs, wants and expectations.  I prepare for each client by reviewing their intake form,  any previous notes I have made and by verbally communicating about that days service and what to expect.  By doing this I am able to plan the appropriate service so as to maximize results for the skin, and allow YOU to relax!

3
Honesty

In any relationship honesty is key.  I believe in telling my clients the truth about their skin.  Good, bad or ugly you can count on me to be honest with you.  I need to be able to count on you to be honest with me in return!  As your skin makes progress you can count on me being one of your biggest cheerleaders and helping keep you motivated to continue your progress.  If you have a break out or regression of the health of your skin, you can count on me to be honest about why this may be happening and help troubleshoot and offer solutions.  I will NOT recommend service I do not think with be beneficial for your skin and I will stop services or treatments if there is and issue or contraindication with your skin.  We are in this together!

4
Compassion

We all have our stories and we all have our issues.  No one knows that better than me.  I understand that life interrupts at inopportune times and that life surprises at all the right moments.  I will not judge you or create a hostile environment, I will offer support, advice, and a confidential ear as best I can so as to help you relax, rejuvenate and refresh yourself!
